Ph.D. studies at Clemson University

My dissertation topic is in the field of discrete geometry, specifically in arrangements of points and lines. In general I enjoy areas of mathematics from which I can generate pretty pictures.

In light of my career goals, my Ph.D. program was structured to provide the breadth of knowledge necessary for teaching at the university level. This preparation includes breadth of knowledge and breadth of teaching experience.

  • May 2001 Awarding of my Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences by Clemson University.
  • April 2001 Defense of my dissertation entitled "Slope Critical Configurations Generated from Regular Polygons"
  • April 1999 Oral Exam
  • May 1997 Course work completed
  • January 1997 Preliminary Examinations

Fulbright Scholarship for studies at the Technische Universität Berlin

My activities in Germany included attending seminars about geometry, participating in the colloquia of the Discrete Geometry group, and beginning the research for my dissertation.

In line with the goals of the Fulbright program, my activities included social and cultural events designed to increase my understanding of the German culture and provide an accurate representation of the American culture for those around me. My favorite cultural study was of the wonderful German baked goods.

It is, I think, fitting to note, that my official notice of winning a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Germany arrived one day after my paternal grandmother, the strongest tie to my German heritage, returned to God.

B.S. studies at Bob Jones University

My studies included not only mathematics, but German and computer science along with the liberal arts breadth courses. The choice to minor in a foreign language has been one of the better decisions I have made in my life. Consider it if you still have the chance. The liberal arts philosophy has also proven to be beneficial, even in my first few years after completing the Baccalaureate degree. Working as an usher all four of my years at BJU, I also developed an interest in the fine arts, especially music and drama.

  • May 1994 Awarding of my Bachelor of Science degree by Bob Jones University
  • December 1993 Completion of my senior project entitled "The Imposition of a Coordinate System on the Projective Plane."
