Section 1 Course Description
In this course you will learn the fundamental concepts of calculus which are an introduction to mathematics of the infinite. The order of emphasis is concepts, methods, and calculations.
The course covers three fundamental concepts of analysis: the limit, the derivative, and the integral. We will cover the definitions, interpretations, and basic methods of calculating.
Course outcomes include
- Understand and apply the concept of a limit
- Understand and apply the concepts of differentiation and integration, and their relationship as expressed by the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus
- Proficiently calculate derivatives, and definite and indefinite integrals by means of substitution
- Apply the derivative in modeling settings, such as for graphing, optimization, and related rates problems
